How And When To Use Serum

When used correctly, a good serum can be the holy grail of any skin care routine. The liquid-like consistency allows high concentrations of active ingredients like antioxidants and retinol to penetrate deep into pores.

This makes serums so powerful, which is one of the reasons estheticians and dermatologists recommend them to treat certain skin problems like acne and premature aging.

Although the word sounds complicated, serum is not as complicated as it seems. Still, most of us are probably using it incorrectly. Here's how and when to use serums to get the most out of them.

When should you use facial serum?

Serums can generally be used as part of your daily morning and/or evening routine. Remember: Formulas containing retinol, like Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum, are best used after sundown.

Skincare layering 101 involves applying products in order from thinnest to thickest. This means serum should be used after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing and other treatments.

When layering serums, apply the lighter water-based serum first and then the creamy serum, for example: B. Press "Restart".

In special cases, serums can be oil-based. If so, apply it like a facial oil after moisturizer. Our antioxidant oil-serum blend is part oil, part serum; it's up to you whether you apply your moisturizer before, after, or instead of your moisturizer.

Essence application. Apply while skin is moist. It's best to use serum when your skin is almost dry but still slightly damp, such as after cleansing or using our hydrating toner. Your skin is then more permeable and can better absorb the active ingredients it contains.

If you need a pick-me-up, spray your face with a facial mist or splash your skin with water before applying. If your skin feels dry after cleansing, start with our Hydrating Toner, then apply a few drops of Moisture Maker Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which contains two hydrating ingredients: hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid.

Just use a few drops. Serums are often the most expensive step in your treatment regimen (although their effects don't have to be expensive). That being said, you can get a lot of benefits considering you only need to apply 1-3 drops at a time.

If you use too much, your skin won't be able to absorb the excess, which may even lead to increased acne or irritation. If you're prone to breakouts, inflammation, and redness, add a few drops of Just Breathe Clarifying Serum to your daily routine.

Leave the essence on for 1-2 minutes. Your skin is good at absorbing products. So you don't have to wait for each product to be absorbed before moving on to the next step in your routine.

However, since serums contain active ingredients, such as Vitamin C in our Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum, it's best to let it absorb completely and dry (about 2 minutes) before moving on to other products.

Stack serums together. If you have multiple skin concerns, there's no reason you can't create your own cocktail of serums to target them.

Just do your research first - here you'll find helpful instructions on which ingredients work well together and which don't.
